Arsenal respond to Atletico Madrid as complaint made ahead of Champions League clash

Arsenal have apologised to Atletico Madrid after receiving a complaint from the Spanish club following their training session at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners take on Atletico in the third league stage game of theChampions League on Tuesday night (8pm). Mikel Arteta’s side will be looking to make it three wins from three after beating Athletic Club and Olympiacos in their opening two games of the competition.

As preparations for Tuesday’s game take place, Atletico held a training session at Emirates Stadium on Monday. Diego Simeone's men trained in the rain as they put the finishing touches to their plan to take on Arsenal.

However, they were unable to take a hot shower in either dressing room at the stadium due to a plumbing issue. Atletico claim that the issue remained for over an hour with them returning to their hotel for showers.

It is understood that the issue was resolved within 40 minutes of Arsenal knowing about it, with hot water returning before Atletico’s scheduled training finish time, but by then Simeone ended the session early.

Arsenal apologised to Atletico staff members for the inconvenience.

UEFA rules have hot water showers as a facility that dressing rooms must include to meet the stadium infrastructure guidelines. However, that is only relating to matchdays and not the training sessions before.

While Arsenal have won both of their Champions League group stage games so far, Atletico sit in 10th place in the league, having won one and lost one of their matches.

The La Liga side conceded an injury time winner in the 3-2 away loss against Liverpool last month. They did, however, bounce back in their last outing in the competition with a convincing 5-1 win over German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Ahead of the meeting, Arteta has outline how he admires Simeone for the work he has done with Atletico.

"Well, obviously there is someone that I look up to and learn from him in many situations and what is for me outstanding is his passion,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

"I think for how long he's been in the game and in the same club with the same players, how you still have that hand and that capacity to transmit such an energy and willingness to win.

"It's a very tough environment that we live in and to keep convincing players you have to be extraordinary as well.

"I don't know [him] personally but everything I heard about him is that he's so good at doing that. That's one of the reasons why you are able to sustain at that level."
