TET Mandatory For Teachers Supreme Court: NCTE's 2011 order
Let us tell you that on 29 July 2011, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) had clarified that passing TET would be mandatory for appointment to the post of teacher across the country. Since then, TET has become the standard of minimum qualification for teachers.
In its order, the bench has also questioned the 2014 decision, which said that teachers of minority institutions can be exempted from passing TET. The court admitted that this decision may be contrary to the provisions of Article 30. Therefore, the larger bench will consider whether the condition of TET should be applicable to teachers of minority institutions or not.
It is clear from this order that now it will be mandatory for teachers working in general schools to pass TET. At the same time, minority educational institutions have got relief for the time being, but in future the decision of the larger bench may change their situation.
