As the new week kicks off, most students and parents across India will be heading to school on Monday, 15th September 2025, with classrooms open as usual. While September has already seen a string of festive breaks, today is not a nationwide school holiday. Engineer’s Day is observed today, but since it is not a gazetted holiday, schools in all states are expected to operate normally.
The next major school breaks are expected later this month, coinciding with festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Eid-e-Milad, and Dussehra. For now, states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh will follow their regular academic schedule.
However, in certain regions, particularly those recently affected by heavy rains and flooding, parents and students are advised to stay alert for last-minute announcements.
State-Wise School Status:
Jammu & Kashmir: Schools in the Jammu Division, which faced nearly two weeks of closures due to floods and landslides, have been directed to reopen from 10th September 2025. Authorities have emphasised safety, instructing school heads to conduct thorough sanitation and safety checks before welcoming students back. In areas with severe damage, closures may still continue depending on local safety reports.
Punjab: Following extensive flood-related closures, schools were instructed to reopen from 9th September 2025. However, the final decision rests with the Deputy Commissioner of each district. Some schools in Ferozepur and Jalandhar that remain waterlogged or structurally affected may continue to stay closed, with daily reviews in place.
Rajasthan: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued heavy rain warnings in early September, leading to temporary closures in districts like Udaipur, Jalore, and Dungarpur. While many areas have returned to normal, authorities are monitoring conditions closely and will make day-to-day decisions if rainfall returns.
Telangana: Despite recent rain warnings, there have been no official school holiday announcements, and schools are functioning as usual. Authorities remain on high alert and may announce sudden closures if weather conditions worsen.
Other States: Regions like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, previously affected by heavy rainfall, have largely resumed normal academic schedules. Any future closures will be decided at the district level, depending on local weather forecasts.
What Parents and Students Should Know
For most of the country, the academic week begins today without disruption. That said, families in affected districts are advised to stay informed about local updates regarding school operations. While the majority of students will return to classrooms, safety remains the top priority in flood-affected areas.
In short, it’s business as usual for schools across India on 15th September 2025, with only a handful of districts likely to see temporary closures due to weather-related concerns.
