Arsenal have paid tribute to former academy prospect Billy Vigar following his death at the age of 21. It was announced on Thursday that the Chichester City forward had died after sustaining a significant brain injury during a game against Wingate & Finchley on Saturday.
The 21-year-old was plying his trade in the seventh tier of English football, in the Isthmian League Premier Division, after leaving the Premier League club in 2024. Vigar joined the North London club's academy as a 14-year-old and signed his first professional contract in 2022.
Arsenal were among those to offer their condolences to Vigar's family after a statement confirming his death was release on Thursday evening. "Everyone at Arsenal is devastated by the shocking news that former academy graduate Billy Vigar has passed away," they wrote. "All our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time.
"Rest in peace, Billy."

Vigar had been a part of the Gunners' under-21 set-up until last year before signing for Hastings United on a free transfer. During his time with the Gunners, Vigar featured five times, including one appearance in the EFL Trophy as he made a late substitute appearance against Ipswich in 2022.
Vigar signed for Chichester in the summer and scored two goals in six appearances for the club. However, during their Isthmian League Premier Division encounter away at Wingate & Finchley, the game was abandoned after 10 minutes due to a serious injury with Vigar placed into an induced coma after suffering a brain injury.
Chichester would then confirm on Thursday that Vigar had passed away by sharing a short statement from his family. "After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was put in an induced coma," the statement read.

"On Tuesday he needed an operation to aid any chances of recovery. Although this helped, the injury proved too much for him and he passed away on Thursday (25th) morning.
"The responses to the original update show how much Billy was thought of and loved within the sport. His family are devastated that this has happened whilst he was playing the sport that he loved."
The Football Association (FA) also reacted to the talented footballer's devastating death. Their statement read: "We are devastated to hear that Billy Vigar has passed away.
"We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, loved ones, and everyone at Chichester City FC at this incredibly difficult time."
Wingate & Finchley posted a message to social media later on Thursday evening, writing: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Billy Vigar. "Our sincere condolences go out to Billy's family, and to our friends at Chichester City FC at this incredibly difficult time."
