A team of doctors at Sarvodaya Hospital, Sector 8, Faridabad, successfully performed a rare and complex laryngeal reinnervation surgery, restoring the voice of a patient who had lost it for six months due to left-sided vocal cord paralysis caused by a viral infection.
The patient had visited several major hospitals across the country but failed to recover. His condition had not only affected his health but also jeopardized his job and family life. Finally, under the care of Dr. Ravi Bhatia, Director, ENT and Cochlear Implant Department, and Dr. Akash Agarwal, Associate Consultant, Sarvodaya Hospital, the patient regained his voice after undergoing this advanced surgical procedure.
A first in North IndiaAccording to the hospital, this is the first successful laryngeal reinnervation surgery performed in North India.
Explaining the procedure, Dr. Akash Agarwal said, “In this surgery, the damaged nerve supplying the vocal cords is reconnected using a microscope. This helps restore movement and function of the paralyzed vocal cord. Post-surgery, the patient underwent voice therapy, resonance therapy, swallowing therapy, and regular endoscopic evaluations every 2–3 weeks.”
He further added, “Within just two months, the patient’s voice returned completely to normal, and he has resumed his regular personal and professional life.”
A new milestone in voice and ENT careDr. Bhatia highlighted that Sarvodaya Hospital’s ENT & Cochlear Implant Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a multidisciplinary team including ENT surgeons, speech therapists, vestibular therapists, and audiologists.
“At Sarvodaya, our goal is to make world-class medical technology accessible and affordable. With this successful surgery, we’ve taken another step forward in providing advanced ENT care to patients close to home,” he said.
Under Dr. Agarwal’s leadership, the hospital has also launched a specialized department to treat patients suffering from cancer, stroke, voice paralysis, and disorders related to speech, swallowing, and breathing.
This medical breakthrough marks a new ray of hope for patients who have lost their voice due to nerve paralysis or other conditions — reaffirming that advanced voice restoration is now possible in India itself.
