India Develops Its First Indigenous Antibiotic: A Hope for Cancer and Diabetes Patients

India has achieved a significant medical breakthrough with the development of its first indigenous antibiotic, Nafithromycin, which is highly effective against life-threatening respiratory infections. This development brings new hope, particularly for cancer patients and those with uncontrolled diabetes, whose immune systems are often compromised.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, stated that Nafithromycin was entirely conceived, developed, and clinically tested in India. He highlighted that this marks a major step toward making India self-reliant in the pharmaceutical sector.

Dr. Singh further explained that Nafithromycin can target respiratory infections resistant to existing antibiotics, making it a crucial tool for patients with weakened immunity. Its introduction not only strengthens India’s healthcare capabilities but also underscores the country’s growing prowess in pharmaceutical research and development.
