One surprising ingredient could help take your avocado breakfast to the next level, a foodie says. The creamy fruit is a staple in many of our diets, and can be scooped out and eaten on toast without much additional seasoning due to its pleasant buttery, earthy flavour.
But if you're getting a bit bored with avocado and are looking for a simple way to give it an extra kick, the answer may be simpler than you think. Booke Schuldt at Simply Recipes says she tried adding a large tablespoon of pickled pepperoncini juice to her avocado mixture in a bid to make it more interesting, and it certainly paid off.
Pepperoncini, also known as friggitelli are small, yellow peppers sold in a pickle brine with a sweet and sour flavour - and a bit of a kick.
Brooke said she also added some "olive oil and Trader Joe's Chilli Onion Crunch Sprinkle Seasoning Blend", a product sold in the US which combines various spices including "onion, garlic, dried bell peppers, and chilli pepper flakes, some brown sugar and dried Szechuan pepper", according to the firm's website.
While it might not be possible to find the product on shelves in the UK, you can recreate the flavours with your own ingredients.
She also adds a couple of pepperoncini pieces before spreading them over her toast, describing the result as "heavenly".
Meanwhile, Home Dining Kitchen says sour cream could also give your next avo dish an interesting twist.
According to the website: "Incorporating creamy ingredients can take the flavour of avocado to a whole new level.
"Adding a dollop of Greek yoghurt or sour cream to mashed avocado creates a lusciously creamy texture with a tangy kick, perfect for spreading on toast or using as a dip for veggies.
"For a dairy-free alternative, coconut milk or almond milk can also be used to achieve a similarly velvety consistency, adding a subtly sweet undertone to the avocado's natural creaminess," it adds.
