Boy, 13, arrested after four people injured in series of hit and runs on same day

Police arrested a 13-year-old boy after four people were injured in a series of hit-and-runs on the same day. Over the course of around four hours in east Lincolnshire, three cyclists and an elderly man were reportedly struck by a vehicle, which some described as a Range Rover.

A male cyclist was seriously injured after being knocked off his bike by a vehicle that failed to stop in the first incident on Friday, September 26.

He was rushed to hospital following the collision on Priory Road in Boston, Lincolnshire, at 6.44am. Then at 8.20am, the police received reports that another male cyclist had been knocked off his pushbike by a vehicle that didn't stop in nearby Maltby Le Marsh in Alford.

Just 20 minutes later, another call was made to the police force reporting that an elderly man had been knocked over and the vehicle had nearly hit a small child, with the vehicle again fleeing the scene on West Street, Alford. The elderly man suffered minor injuries.

In the fourth incident at 10.04am, another report was received after a vehicle on Bluestone Heath Road, Calceby, Alford, was said to have knocked a cyclist off his bike by a vehicle that did not stop.

Shortly after 10.23am the same day a 13-year-old boy was detained in the area of Hainton Road, Louth, and arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drugs, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, using a vehicle on a road without third party insurance, and aggravated vehicle taking.

Lincolnshire Police confirmed it is continuing to examine the incident but believes a black Range Rover may have been involved in each of these occurrences.

The 13-year-old boy has now been released on bail, reports the Mirror.

Investigating Officer Sgt Billy Spence said earlier: "I appreciate this is an unusual and, most likely, a worrying set of incidents for people who may been in the area at the time, and we are of course sending our best wishes and thoughts to those injured for a quick and full recovery.

"We have a young man in custody who is helping us with our enquiries, and we are keeping an open mind about the exact events of today, but we believe these incidents are linked.

"We do need the help of the public in order to make sure we have as much information and evidence as possible in order to carry out a thorough enquiry.

"If you have any dashcam footage, CCTV, witnesses, or any other information that could help and haven't already spoken to us we would appreciate you getting in touch.

"I would also ask that the wider public do not speculate about what has happened here today and allow us to carry out our enquiries as fairly and freely as possible."

The force stated investigating officers are working to establish the precise circumstances involved. The police are appealing for any dashcam footage, CCTV, witnesses, or any other information that could assist the investigation.
