ITV is currently airing a thrilling new drama starring Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker.

Six-part series Frauds, which was co-created by Suranne and Anne-Marie O'Connor, centres around two con women called Bert and Sam.

The duo have been living very different lives in Spain over the last few years. Sam lives a quiet existence in the rolling hills, while Bert has spent her time in the less idyllic setting of a prison cell.

After spending a decade behind bars, a terminal cancer diagnosis allows Bert to walk free on compassionate discharge, and she has a burning desire to pull off one final heist that will prove her worth.

The series started airing on ITV1 earlier this month, with the finale set to be broadcast at 9pm on Monday, October 20. As all six episodes are already on ITVX, let's explore what happened at the end of Frauds, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Early on in the series, Bert revealed her plan to steal a controversial Salvador Dali painting from the Reina Sofía Museum. She eventually got Sam on board with the plan, before enlisting the help of Miss Take (Talisa García), Jackie Diamond (Elizbabeth Berrington) and Bilal Anwar (Karan Gill).

Bilal created an exact replica of the painting, while Jackie made several props that were needed for the heist. Bert also got her friend, Blas (Javier Taboada), a job in the security department of the museum.

On the day of the heist, Miss Take created a distraction, while Sam and Bert quickly replaced the real painting with the fake. The item was placed in a pram, with Blas looping pre-recorded footage on the security cameras.

There were a number of obstacles to overcome, but somehow Bert and Sam successfully managed to complete the heist, but a shocking twist was still in store (more on that later).

Bert was notably released from prison early as she claimed that she only had months to live, but it turned out that she had lied about having cancer.

Bert explained that her terminal cancer scam was revenge after Sam betrayed her years before.

"I took pills so that you thought I was sick, which made me sick and that was actually really f****** inconvenient at times! I played the long game and here I am, that is so much better than any con," Bert told her friend.

During the series, Sam learned that her accomplice Caitlin (Thais Martin) was her daughter after she read secret letters between her and Bert.

However, it turned out that Caitlin was not Sam's real child, and she was actually the daughter of Bert's jail nurse Maria, whom she owed money. Caitlin, whose real name was Sara, held Bert and Sam at gunpoint before driving off with the cash that they had got from the heist.

At the end of Frauds, Sam and Bert were on the run, with the police unable to catch them. The pair made it their mission to find Sara and get their money back.

While a second series has yet to be confirmed, there's definitely lots more to explore with these complex characters.

Will Bert and Sam find Sara and get revenge, and could Miss Take and Jackie make their return? We'll just have to wait and see.
