Retired British tennis star Laura Robson was left with her head in her hands as she dropped herself in it with Martina Navratilova live on Sky Sports. The punditry team were discussing a marriage proposal that took place during Aryna Sabalenka's night session match on Friday, and the former world No. 27 claimed she "couldn't think of anything worse" than a mid-match proposal.
But 18-time Major champion Navratilova suddenly revealed that she had in fact proposed to her wife Julia on the US Open's main showcourt, the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Robson was mortified, bursting out laughing and pretending to run out of shot.
One lucky couple put a ring on it while Sabalenka was busy playing against former finalist Leylah Fernandez on the Louis Armstrong Stadium on Friday night. Cameras panned around the stands during a changeover and captured the moment one man got down on one knee and proposed to his partner.
There were cheers across the US Open's second-biggest stadium, and world No. 1 Sabalenka later said it was "a very sweet moment", though she made it clear that she didn't want the same type of proposal.
And one woman who can get on board with that is former British No. 1 Robson. At the top on Saturday's US Open broadcast on Sky Sports, presenter Gigi Salmon asked the puditry team if they could imagine being proposed to in the stands in the middle of a night session.
"I couldn't think of anything worse, honestly," Robson declared. But she was soon left regretting her bold statement, as Navratilova said: "I proposed to Julia on Ashe 11 years ago."

The entire broadcast team, including Tim Henman, burst out laughing as Robson covered her face with her hand and then ran behind Henman to the edge of the studio.
"I'll just show myself out! I did not know that," the Olympic silver medallist joked.
Navratilova continued to share the details of her marriage proposal as Robson could only listen in and cringe. "It was during a match, they did a thing on the changeover, they showed us on the screen," the tennis legend continued.
"I got down on my knee and Julia was like looking at me, I was like, 'Can you please say something? My knees are killing me'. She finally said yes, it took her a while though. It was a surprise."
Henman jibed: "It's quite hot in here all of a sudden, isn't it, Laura?" Salmon asked Robson how she was feeling, and she quickly tried to find the bright side. "And they're still together," she said of Navratilova and her wife.
Navratilova gave the Brit a hug, showing there were no hard feelings, and they swiftly tried to change the subject. Robson added: "Wow, there's a lot of tennis on today, isn't there!"
But Robson's hilarious mistake remained on everyone's minds after they enjoyed some tennis talk and a VT. "I'm still thinking about the proposal," Henman said as cameras cut back to the studio.
Navratilova tried to help Robson out, replying: "Well, it was in the day session. You were talking about the night session, big difference." They finally managed to move on afterwards, turning their attention to Coco Gauff's serving issues ahead of her third-round match on Saturday.
