Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United star on loan at Barcelona, once again dazzled in the Champions League, as he helped them secure a resounding 6-1 victory over Olympiakos on Tuesday evening.
The England forward continued his stellar performance in Europe's premier competition, netting twice in the second half and also earning a penalty for his side. Consequently, he now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe in terms of goal contributions in the Champions League this season.
Mbappe, the France national captain, has five goals to his name, while Rashford boasts four goals and one assist. Meanwhile, back at Old Trafford, United have been struggling to find the back of the net so far this season with Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all managing just two goals apiece.
It seems that Rashford could be the key to brighter days for United, but uncertainty continues to surround his future. The 27-year-old, currently on loan at Barcelona until the end of the season, carries a price tag of £30million for next summer.
If he decides to stay put at Camp Nou, United will still benefit from a percentage of any future sell-on fee. The Catalan giants are eager to make Rashford's temporary move a permanent one, following his impressive start at the club.
Barcelona manager Flick made his feelings clear to the club's sporting director Deco about Rashford: "I told him we have to do it," he declared. Marcus is an exceptional player, exactly what we needed."
Commenting on Rashford's versatility, Flick further added: "Rashford is a solid choice as a No.9, but he can also function as a No.11. That's what we had in mind when we signed him: he can play as a No.9 or No.11, and it's fantastic to have him in our team.
"He's improved a lot in recent weeks. He gives us a lot of positives, and of course, he can play as a No.9."
