Pressure is reportedly mounting on Meghan Markle to take on the role of family breadwinner as Prince Harry faces growing uncertainty about his future career in the US. The claims come in a new Channel 5 documentary, The Jobless Prince: What Will Harry Do Next?, which examines how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are navigating life after leaving the royal family. Loose Women's Jane Moore said: "It soon became quite clear that they were writing checks for situations that they weren't earning the money to sustain.
"It suddenly started to look a bit emperors new clothes. It was like, 'Okay, your members of the British Royal Family. What else have you got?'" As a captain in the Royal Marines, Harry could earn around £52,000 a year - but their sprawling California mansion reportedly costs at least a quarter of a million dollars a year just in mortgage payments. The programme suggested the pressure is now on Meghan to bring in millions to sustain their lavish lifestyle.
According to insiders, the Duchess is already exploring multiple ways to boost their income - including a return to acting. One source said: "This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves."
A studio insider told The Sun: "Meghan had already been swamped with offers, but this one had felt right."
They added it was a chance for her to "gently dip her toe back into the world of acting" and that everyone on set was "super excited" to have her back.
The Duchess has reportedly been spotted filming for the upcoming Amazon-MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends in Pasadena, California, where she's said to be playing herself opposite Lily Collins, Jack Quaid and Brie Larson.
Directed by Big Time Adolescence filmmaker Jason Orley, the movie is believed to centre on two couples - though the exact plot remains under wraps.
Another insider told People magazine: "Meghan was on the set today. She has a small part. She seemed very relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth."
Harry is said to be fully supportive of his wife's new venture. "He was pleased she could return to what she felt passionate about," the source added.
It's been eight years since Meghan stepped away from acting after leaving Suits, and she's since launched her lifestyle brand As Ever, which recently unveiled its first Christmas collection.
A festive clip shared on Instagram showed Meghan in an olive green dress, decorating a tree, baking desserts with her fruit preserves, and glazing a turkey using her brand's honey.
But while Meghan's career revival is gathering momentum, experts say Harry's future is less certain. Jane added, the Duke "hasn't hit it off in America" and may need to "become a dad-fluencer for billionaires" to fund his lifestyle.
The documentary claims his "chapter in the US seems to be coming to an end", as the prince faces questions over how he'll generate income to pay his $10 million mortgage following his failed court bid for taxpayer-funded security.
